  • 1.What is NIFT?

    National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) was established in 1986 under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Getting admission in NIFT is really tough and to crack this difficult exam one needs full dedication and good preparation. Every year thousands of students appear in this exam to secure their seat at NIFT.

  • 2. What is the Eligibility Required for NIFT?

    Eligibility for NIFT 2014 – For B.Des: (Fashion Design/Leather Design/Accessory Design/Textile Design/Knitwear Design/Fashion Communication) +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized central/state board of secondary examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education/State Board New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi or; General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/International Baccalaureate (IB) or; Any public school/board/university examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system or; A pass grade in the senior secondary school examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects or; 3 or 4 years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education. For M.Des: Undergraduate degree from any institute/university recognized by law in India or; Diploma in UG Design from NIFT/NID only. Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT/NID.

  • 3. What is the duration of the program?

    The most demanded format is the 4 year integrated program and the most commonly degree awarded are B.Des. (Fashion Design), B.Des. (Accessory Design), B.Des. (Textile Design), B.Des. (Fashion Communication), B.Des. (Knitwear Design).

  • 4. Are the programmes offered at NIFT residential?

    No. Not at all. They have the facilities of Hostel Stay but it is not mandatory.

  • 5. What is the fee structure of different NIFTs?

    The fees at NIFTs varies from university to university and is Rs 1.5 lakhs on an average. One can avail educational loan easily for the program. However an education at NIFT shall allow you to earn the entire fees in couple of months.

  • 6. Are there reservations in NIFTs?

    Yes, All NIFTs have reservation for SCs & STs & OBCs, Some university also have regional quota & reservation for women, wards of defense personal and NRI sponsored candidate.

  • 7. Can a 12th (PCM) appearing student apply for NIFT entrance exam?

    You can very well apply for the entrance exam this year! just produce a proof saying that you ll be taking up your +2 exam this march. A school bonafide would do i guess. however, most colleges would ask for our +2 mark sheets right after your results are out. So, you can produce a printed copy of ur result from the internet, once your results are out. detailed info on

  • 8. How to Apply for NIFT Entrance Exam?

    You can apply for the NIFT entrance test online at the following websites: or 
    Brochures and Application Forms can also be procured from any of the 15 NIFT campuses or by post by enclosing a Demand Draft of the specified amount in favor NIFT, New Delhi. 

    You will have a choice regarding the date on which you want to appear or the written examination as it will be held on two separate dates. This implies that you can choose to appear for the test twice as well, for two different courses or the same course. If you appear for the same course twice, the test in which your scores are higher will be considered. Please note that you will have to send separate application forms if you choose to appear for the exam on more than one date. If you want to pursue B.FTech, you will also have to specify whether you wish to give the exam in a Computer Based Mode or a Pen and Paper Based Mode.   • 9. what is the scope of jobs after designing from nift?

    As a fashion designer, there are many avenues and opportunities. You can opt for a career in : -export house -textile mill -manufacturing and processing company that produces clothing, soft furnishings and other textiles-based products -several large fashion and clothing retailers -design studios and consultancies -handloom cooperatives and buying agencies You may even work as freelancer. And with good experience and contacts, you can eventually open your own business. ** Salary : Salary depends on various parameters such as size of the organization, profile, qualification, experience, etc. But, still, to give you a brief idea, as a fresher, you can expect a salary between Rs. 12, 000 to Rs 15, 000 per month. With experience you can expect a higher salary.

  • 10. How to Prepare for NIFT entrance test?

    NIFT stands for National Institute of Fashion Technology.

    Pattern of exam:-
    NIFT entrance exam includes questions from the following sections -
    1) General Ability Test (GAT).
    2) Communication Ability.
    3) Logical Ability.

    Preparation for exam :-
    1) For GAT ,questions will be asked from 10+2 level for undergraduate test and at graduation level for postgraduate program. So, prepare for these.
    2) For the 2nd section you need to have a clear concept on english grammar( Synonyms, words with corresponding meanings, antonyms, singular, plural, one word substitutes, correct spellings, idioms and phrases, etc.).
    3) Third section aims to evaluate the ability to identify the logic or reason involved in a particular problem given and applying the logic in solving the problem. Concepts and practice of creative and lateral thinking are needed to do well.
